Cheaper? Yikes!! If that is your idea of a "cheap" chip, we need to work on your perspective a bit.. I'll stick with my $120 Phenom X4, thank you..

Your $120 Phenom X4 is ancient, my friend. It's so slow by comparison, that to quote this month's MaximumPC magazine, "lets hope AMD's 45nm CPU puts some pep back in AMD's step, because the situation is getting beyond ugly."

Further quoting this issue, which benchmarks the Core i7 against AMD's fastest chip on the market, the Pehnom X4 9950 Black Edition, "we witnessed performance differences of 87%, 95%, and even 133% over the fastest Phenom part."

I'm not running out to buy this chip at $300, but it's clearly a good deal relative to the CPU market. Most chip iterations give 20 - 30% speed bumps, hardly noticeable in daily web surfing. But a new chip AVERAGING a 2x (100%++) increase over the Phenom X4 makes me doubt AMD's future. If AMD's next chip is another dud (or has another bug), AMD might join GM in the great American company junkyard.
